India U-17 Goalkeeper Dheeraj impresses scouts

New Delhi : India made a bittersweet start at 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.The Blue Tigers faced a 3-0 defeat to the United States in their first-ever appearance in a FIFA World Cup event at any age level.

The scoreline however does not give an actual account of India’s performance, which was a very good one against a tough US which was led by Werder Bremen prodigy Josh Sargent.

Among some individual brilliances from Indian players, goalkeeper Dheeraj Moirangthem’s performance under the bars was hailed by many, including the US coach John Hackworth.

“The goalkeeper (Dheeraj Singh) made several saves in the opening 20 minutes. He was exceptional on the night. If he wouldn’t have made those saves, the game would have opened up. One save was off Josh Sargent and he doesn’t miss many. In the second half, we made some tactical adjustment which allowed us more space to play. Durkin finished from a corner-kick and I must say that he doesn’t usually finish as well as he did today,” said coach Hackworth.

Scouts as usual, are here in India, watching the World Cup matches closely, in a bid to find talents in the tournament.

Scouts during Ghana vs Colombia match at JLN Stadium. They also watched India vs USA later the same day.

As per reports, Dheeraj is one of the few Indian players who managed to impress the scouts.

While midfielder Komal Thatal was already on target of the scouts, Dheeraj with his stellar performance will surely be enquired of by top clubs if his performances against Colombia and Ghana remain thus.
