Before moving to India, the star midfielder has previously played in Premier League side Burnley and A League side Perth Glory. This decision of Aryn’s to move to India India has naturally created lots of speculation and the reports of his to give up his Passports had fuel the curiosity. Amid such confusion and speculation IFTWC team has decided to reach out to the player and clear everything put from the player himself. Here follows the conversation
IFTWC: What made you to come to India? Are you liking your stay in India. Is there any problem you are facing?
Aryn Williams: I chose to come to India because I wanted to follow in my grandfathers footsteps as he enjoyed many years playing at the highest level in India. I’m really enjoying my time in India so far, it’s been great so far and I hope to stay here for many years to come! The only problem is the language barrier but I will be taking up Hindi classes soon!
IFTWC: What is your view on I League and Indian players ?
Aryn Williams: The I-League is great for Indian football and the Indian players playing within. It gives Indian players a professional platform and also gives the opportunity to players to be able to travel the country as well, which they might not get in another job!
IFTWC: Do you follow Indian national team matches? Who’s is your favourite player in the team.
Aryn Williams: Yes I follow the Indian national team quite closely. I enjoy watching the whole team but Sunil Chhetri for me is pure class.
IFTWC: There are some reports that you are willing to Give up your British and Australian passport. Are these reports true?
Aryn Williams: Yes these reports are true. I am working with my management team currently and trying to find the best way to get the process done and get me my Indian passport
IFTWC: Why did you choose India over England and Australia.
Aryn Williams: I chose India because of my grandfather. I want to be able to make a good name for myself in Indian football just like my grandfather.
IFTWC: How is your paperwork going ? By when are you confidence of being eligible to represent India? Will you be eligible for Asian cup 2019?
Aryn Williams: We are still trying to work out the best possible way to do it but I’m hopefully it will be done in time for the Asian Cup 2019!
IFTWC: We understand that this decision was tough to make. What was the reaction of your decision from your closed ones ?
Aryn Williams: Everyone in my family is really proud of me and can’t wait for me to wear the Indian jersey. It’s been a dream of mine to play international football and everyone in my family knows how hard I have worked so hopefully I can get my passport and get rewarded with an Indian national team call up.
IFTWC : There were many players in past like Danny Batth, Michael Chopra expressed their interest to play for India, but those move never happened. Can we be positive this time?
Aryn Williams: There are sacrifices one needs to make and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get myself in an Indian jersey so I am very positive that at some point I will be able to play for India!
IFTWC: You have played as Right back in past , but now you are playing as a Midfielder in Neroca. So what is your favorite position.
Aryn Williams: When I was at Burnley in the EPL I played RB but I’ve been playing CM for Neroca this season and I love it. I’d love to stay in CM for the rest of my career and I hope I can have a positive impact on Indian football with me playing in CM!
IFTWC: What is your experience with Neroca till now. Being one of the key players of Neroca. What do you think about Neroca’s chance to win I-LEAGUE.
Aryn Williams: I’ve really enjoyed my time so far at Neroca. Everyone is so welcoming and the fans are amazing!! We are in a fantastic position at the moment and we just need to keep playing well and winning games and leave the rest up to god. I hope we can bring some joy and happiness to Manipur!
IFTWC: What makes Neroca fans different from others. Would you like to share any particular special moment with the team or with fans.
Aryn Williams: Neroca fans are great. They are always so supporting of me and the players and they’re so passionate which is what I love! When we scored against KEB in the 90th minute and the whole crowd screamed and the noise was intense! it was amazing and something I’ll never forget!
IFTWC: We all know that India is far behind from Australia on the field. Having experience of both A League and Indian structure. What are the things you think that India needs to do for development. Are we heading in right direction ?
Aryn Williams: India is definitely on the right track and after the U17 WC I don’t think football has ever been bigger then it is now! I’m excited to be a part of Indian football now and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for football within India and on the international stage!
